The Binder Brothers were originally a thrown together band from Mississauga who found themselves looking for a name as they were scrunched into a car en route to play a party in Kleinberg Ontario circa 1972. As they drove under the archway entrance to Kleinberg that reads: "Welcome to Kleinberg - Home of the Binder Twine Festival" someone got an idea. It was Bob Binder, Biff Binder, Bart Binder, Book Binder - and thus, The Binder Brothers were born!

.

Originally with Dean Connor on rhythm guitar, Grant Heckman on lead guitar, David Glendenning on bass and Bruce Griffin on drums and vocals, the band played a lot of Wishbone Ash, with a bit of Jethro Tull and Johnny Winter – anything with harmony guitar parts. Lots of summer parties, including house parties in Kingston for Grant's friends and some in London for Dean's friends. When Bruce met Ian McKinnon in a line-up for The Rathskellar at McMaster University, drumming away on his pants, he soon asked him to sit in while Bruce switched to bass to replace Dave Glendenning who had gone on tour across Canada with the second incarnation of Whiskey Howl, around about 1974.

.

With band members attending three different universities, they weren't able to get together as often, so Dean had a band in London, Grant played in a few bands in Kingston (notably with Georgette Fry, and backing up Avril Lavigne when she still sang country) and Bruce started playing a bit of jazz with Charlie Cozens in Hamilton. Then Bruce and Ian did a summer in the Gaspe playing hard core country for 6 weeks with Angus Walker - Canada's Prime Minister of Country Music. When the Binders finally did get together on stage, party music was generated at a high level of excitement, based on spontaneity and bringing their various influences into play. Finally it was decided that The Binder Brothers should record some original tunes. Check out our latest 'BINDER NATION', today!
